We have a fantastic team of apprentices within the Ploughcroft workforce, and are proud to offer the UK’s first Eco-Roof apprenticeship scheme. Not only does it cover traditional roofing, it offers a wide range of cutting-edge, energy-efficient construction techniques, required to meet the needs of the fast-growing eco construction sector.
As a company, we feel we are leading the way in the construction industry, operating significantly above the industry average by employing 33 per cent apprentices as part of our workforce, compared to the industry average of 5 – 10 per cent.
The reason for our commitment in this area is, in part, down to the skills shortage facing not only Yorkshire, but the whole of the UK when it comes to heritage and eco roofing. Put simply, there aren’t enough people with the correct skills to meet the demand from employers. Here at Ploughcroft, we are keen to tackle this issue head on, and in order to give people the opportunity to make it in the roofing industry, we’re providing them with the skills they need to succeed with our Eco-Roof apprenticeship scheme.
Apprenticeships have gained in popularity in recent years, with students completing a selection of class-based and on-the-job training, giving them a key insight into their chosen career path. Leeds College of Building currently take on 40 roofing apprentices each year, with Ploughcroft taking 10 per cent of these, helping the students to carve a career in the roofing industry.
Apprentices have such an important part to play in the roofing industry. We are providing our apprentices with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure that our industry continues to grow and develop, ready to face the challenges of the future.
