Last year, the Ploughcroft team helped out on the popular BBC programme, DIY SOS: The Big Build. In February, the team travelled to Holmfirth in West Yorkshire and joined a large team of builders, plasterers, decorators, and local trades, to help transform the roof of Richard Ford’s home.
Back in 2012, Richard suffered a brain stem stroke which left him paralysed. He was left with “locked-in” syndrome for nine months, with blinking being his only method of communication. The dad of three now uses a wheelchair to move around, and communicates with an iPad.
Chris Hopkins, Managing Director of Ploughcroft said: “When we found out where the renovation was happening, and how local it was, we knew we had to help out. It was fantastic seeing all of the local Yorkshire companies coming together to help with the renovation, it really gave a sense of community spirit. When we heard Richard’s story, it made us work even harder to give him a house that he deserved. We hope the family enjoy the new transformation.”
Be sure to catch the programme on BBC1 at 9pm Thursday December 17th, and see if you can spot our handy work: http://bbc.in/1iSfSyU
