Good news! If you’re a homeowner looking to save energy, this new government scheme might save you two-thirds off your next energy-saving home improvement in the coming months.
On 8 July 2020, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the government’s £2 billion Green Homes Grant scheme for improving homes in England. Part of this scheme will be to help fund energy-saving improvements by covering up to two-thirds of the cost.
Up until March 2021, owner-occupiers and social/private landlords will be eligible to apply for Green Homes Grant vouchers. They will be able to receive these vouchers in late September. The vouchers will provide up to £10,000 in renovation costs for low-income households. For other households, they will provide up to £5,000 by covering up to two-thirds of the costs.
The Green Homes Grant scheme specifies what sort of energy-saving measures its vouchers will cover. This includes certain primary measures and certain secondary measures. Installing a primary measure will allow you to apply for a secondary measure, covering the same amount or less. (E.g. if you receive £2,000 for a primary measure, you can get up to £2,000 for a secondary measure.)
You must apply for at least one of the following to qualify for the grant:
Installing a primary measure will allow you to apply for these secondary measures:
Applying for a voucher for Ploughcroft’s roof insulation will save you up to two-thirds off our quote — or 100% off if you’re a low-income household. It will also make you eligible for one of these secondary energy-saving measures.
An online service will allow you to apply for vouchers in the near future, and the government will announce further details. To apply for a voucher, you will need to specify what energy-saving improvements you want to make to your home.
Please note that any tradespeople you request funding for must be TrustMark approved — just like we are!
