The Green Homes Grant Scheme

Good news! If you’re a homeowner looking to save energy, this new government scheme might save you two-thirds off your next energy-saving home improvement in the coming months.

On 8 July 2020, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the government’s £2 billion Green Homes Grant scheme for improving homes in England. Part of this scheme will be to help fund energy-saving improvements by covering up to two-thirds of the cost.

Green Homes Grant Vouchers

Up until March 2021, owner-occupiers and social/private landlords will be eligible to apply for Green Homes Grant vouchers. They will be able to receive these vouchers in late September. The vouchers will provide up to £10,000 in renovation costs for low-income households. For other households, they will provide up to £5,000 by covering up to two-thirds of the costs.

The Green Homes Grant scheme specifies what sort of energy-saving measures its vouchers will cover. This includes certain primary measures and certain secondary measures. Installing a primary measure will allow you to apply for a secondary measure, covering the same amount or less. (E.g. if you receive £2,000 for a primary measure, you can get up to £2,000 for a secondary measure.)

Primary Energy-Saving Measures

You must apply for at least one of the following to qualify for the grant:

  • Insulation: Solid wall, cavity wall, under-floor, loft, flat roof, room in roof, park home.
  • Low-carbon heat: Air source heat pump, ground source heat pump, solar thermal.

Secondary Energy-Saving Measures

Installing a primary measure will allow you to apply for these secondary measures:

  • Draught proofing
  • Windows and doors: Replacing single glazing with double/triple glazing, installing secondary glazing (in addition to single glazing), upgrading to energy-efficient doors (where replacing doors installed prior to 2002).
  • Heating controls and insulation: Appliance thermostats, hot water tank thermostats, hot water tank insulation, smart heating controls, zone controls, delayed start thermostat, thermostatic radiator valves.

Applying for a voucher for Ploughcroft’s roof insulation will save you up to two-thirds off our quote — or 100% off if you’re a low-income household. It will also make you eligible for one of these secondary energy-saving measures.

How to Apply for the Green Homes Grant

An online service will allow you to apply for vouchers in the near future, and the government will announce further details. To apply for a voucher, you will need to specify what energy-saving improvements you want to make to your home.

Please note that any tradespeople you request funding for must be TrustMark approved — just like we are!

With our high-tech Eco Roof™ room-in-roof insulation, you can save up to £500 a year on your heating. Our warm flat roofs will also provide high-tech insulation to lower your heating bills significantly. Either one of these will qualify as a primary energy-saving measure under the Green Homes Grant, allowing you to save a bundle for only a fraction of the cost.
