This impressive building dates back to the 1850s and was in need of some tender loving care. Last summer we carried out re-roofing works to the Newton school building and bridging pitches to the Churchill building.
The project included stripping off existing roof slates, relaying reclaimed Welsh blue slate, installing new hip tiles and hip irons, replacing all lead and upgrading existing insulation by adding new Rockwool insulation between trusses.
The project also included the installation of six conservation-style roof lights along the ridgeline which fit in well on heritage/conservation projects. Weighing approx. 200 kilo each, these windows had to be carefully hoisted into position, with the wet and windy summer weather hampering installation.
