Recently, a customer contacted Ploughcroft and asked us to create a balcony system which could be used as an outside party and entertainment area in his garden.
The customer wanted this area to be a unique feature to his home where guests could enjoy the beautiful views of the Pennine hills near Halifax, West Yorkshire.
The roof area was derelict, rotten, and collapsing under foot when we took ownership of the project. It was clearly too dangerous to be used as a party area so we stripped back the decking and replaced the rotten joists to create a safe and stylish balcony system.
We added a new decking and a revolutionary seamless SIKA roof coating was laid. This roof coating is completely waterproof and so will offer protection from the typical Yorkshire weather.
Stainless steel pockets were then installed to house the balustrading and Yorkshire stone copings laid around the perimeter. The Yorkshire stone blends in well with the house and makes it look like the balcony has been a feature of the house for many years. At Ploughcroft, we like to keep consistency between the heritage of the building and our new additions or repairs.
The remaining area was then filled with external tantalised timber decking. This kind of decking is protected from fungal decay and insect attacks so preserves the service life of the balcony system. Finally we finished off with stainless steel balustrade with safety glass.
We think you will agree that this four week project looks amazing! We can’t wait for summer to come around so the decking can be used for barbeques and parties late into the evening.
