Contract Manager

About Ploughcroft, recruitment, job vacancy, sales administrator

We are looking for an experienced Contract Manager with an extensive roofing background to manage our contracts across the Yorkshire / Lancashire region. Working in the roofing sector dealing with a wide variety of clients including commercial clients, building surveyors, architects and domestic homeowners.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with a ‘get up and go’ attitude who also possesses the ability to motivate and get the best out of people. Working alongside the Divisional Director and office staff and approximately 10 site teams.

Responsible for the smooth coordination and delivery of all projects which range from new build sites, heritage roofing, pitched roofing (slating & tiling), flat roofing, conservatory roof replacement, solar installations and maintenance works.

Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working alongside our planning team to ensure smooth running of contracts
  • Managing site resources and ensuring cover is available for sickness/holidays
  • Briefing operatives on projects/specifications prior to commencement and ensuring they are fully equipped to carry out the project
  • Day to day management of operatives
  • Upskilling & supporting site operative and escalating any training requirements
  • Monitoring progress of works
  • Managing site set-up and site safety
  • Ensuring site / sub-contractor compliance
  • Production of RAMS and Construction Phase Plans
  • Preparing and delivering regular toolbox talks
  • Client liaison / frequent site visits
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction and ensuring we deliver the best customer service/products
  • Rectifying any customer complaints/issues in a timely manner
  • Project sign off – dealing with any snagging issues and ensuring that the works have been completed as per specification

Financial responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing productivity of teams and monitoring / minimising down town
  • Valuations of works for customer invoicing and subcontractor claims
  • Managing job costings and budgets
  • Monitoring project costs to ensure they come in on time and to budget
  • Maximising profitability of all projects
  • Looking for opportunities to increase turnover and profitability
  • Monitoring wastage / over-ordering of materials
  • Identifying new business opportunities and ensuring that ‘additional works’ are dealt with as per business procedures

Key skills:

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to listen to and deal with customer concerns
  • A good technical background in roofing and knowledge of BS5534
  • Good computer skills
  • Methodical approach
  • The ability to multi-task
  • The perception and ability to recognise vulnerabilities in teams and contracts and the ability to prioritise accordingly

Must have:

  • Clean UK Driving Licence
  • Current SMSTS Qualification
  • Current CSCS card
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • Working at Heights
  • Manual Handling
  • First Aid
  • DBS Check

Excellent career progression and benefits are on offer for the right candidates. Based in Halifax, you will complete projects normally within 40 miles of the M62. Working hours are from 7am until 5pm, Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work available.

You will be working on both domestic and commercial property including local authority and housing association contracts but our main focus is in the domestic environment and you must be able to demonstrate respect and great care when working on a customer’s home.

Applicants must have:

  • Minimum of NVQ2 or NVQ3 Roof Slating & Tiling qualification
  • A valid and current CSCS card
  • A full clean driving licence (essential)
  • The confidence to demonstrate an ability to carry out re-roofs and remedial roofing works
  • Experience in lead work
  • The ability to meet demanding deadlines
  • The ability to work without supervision and to use own initiative
  • A willingness to work flexible hours with some weekend work as the weather dictates

Ploughcroft Ltd is currently on the look out for apprentices in Roof Slating & Tiling to star in July on trial with a view to starting their apprenticeship at the Leeds College of Building in September.

Qualification

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma Apprenticeship in Roof Slating & Tiling
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma Advanced Apprenticeship in Roof Slating & Tiling

Location

Working on-site at a variety of locations throughout Yorkshire and Lancashire. Block release to Leeds College of Building currently located at Sourton Campus, Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Course Length

  • Level 2: 2 years.
  • Level 3: Additional 13 months (Level 2 NVQ Diploma must be achieved in order to commence the level 3 NVQ Diploma).

Here at Ploughcroft, we recognise the need to bring young people into our business.

The two/three-year course offers a mix of on-the-job training and classroom-based learning which will cover traditional roofing as well as a wide range of cutting edge, energy efficient construction techniques required to meet the needs of this fast growing eco-construction sector.

Ploughcroft is currently offering this apprenticeship to applicants between the ages of 16 and 24. Starting from the bottom up and attending college on block release (2-week blocks) apprentices quickly gain experience. We also offer the opportunity to progress to Level 3 NVQ Diploma once Level 2 has been achieved.

College will give you the perfect opportunity to start to learn the more technical aspects of the job including:

  • Lead work, cutting and fixing felt and battens, cutting and fixing single and double lap tiles, cutting and fixing slates, fixing ridge tiles (mortar and mechanically fix).

Whilst not attending college you will work with the rest of the Ploughcroft team on-site at a variety of locations. Although, initially your tasks will be simple and aimed at assisting team leaders, as you gain experience you will become confident in assisting team leaders on a day-to-day basis. You will be part of a vibrant hard-working team who strive for complete customer satisfaction every time.

You will learn new techniques, not currently taught in college, for preventing heat loss from buildings including installing a warm roof system and our revolutionary Eco-Roof™ system.
