Torquay is the third largest settlement in Devon and it lies 22 miles south of Exeter and 38 miles north east of Plymouth. The population of Torquay is estimated at 64,000 however during the summer season it is a very popular tourist destination which can see up to 200,000 extra people frequenting the area. Torquay is an ideal seaside resort with things to do from relaxing to sightseeing.

Initially, the town of Torquay was known for its fishing and agricultural industry but in the early 19th century the town became a popular tourist destination as it turned into a fashionable seaside resort. Due to its climate the town was dubbed the English Riviera and is compared quite frequently to Montpellier. The Strand is very popular place in Torquay and attracts many visitors when the sun is setting as it is guaranteed to produce some awe inspiring sights.

There are a number of different tourist attractions in Torquay and it isn't only their lovely beaches that attract the tourists. One attraction in Torquay is the Kent Caverns which is potentially one of Britain's most important Stone Age sites. Another popular attraction is the Princess Theatre which offers a large tether balloon to ride in in order to get fantastic aerial views of the town.

The famous writer Agatha Christie live in Torquay for most of her life and the town even contains an 'Agatha Christie Mile' which is a place with plaques dedicated to her life and work so she is never forgotten.
