Stockport is a large town that is located in the English county of Greater Manchester and it is situated right on the River Mersey and at an influx between the River Goyt and the River Tame. The town of Stockport has a large population with over 130,000 people calling it home.

Stockport's mainly known for its cultivation and manufacturing of rope and hemp and then later on in time it became famous for having one of the very first silk factories in the United Kingdom. However these days the majority of its economy is driven by the time centre, there is an abundance of shops and several luxurious shopping centres. One of them is the Grand Central Leisure Complex which has an impressive movie theatre, an Olympic sized swimming pool and a number of top quality restaurants.

There are many attractions in the town of Stockport and one of them is the famous hat factory - the only one of its kind in the United Kingdom. Alongside the many historic churches there is also the Staircase House which is considered a Grade II medieval townhouse. Another famous location in Stockport would be the Stockport Air Raid Shelters which were built during World War II in order to protect its inhabitants from the threats of the war.

The Stockport County Football Club was found in 1883 and the team currently play in the Conference National League. The team’s biggest success was the 96-97 season when it reached the league cup and got a promotion into the Championship.
