How do Solar Thermal Panels work?

There are two types of solar thermal panels available at Ploughcroft. Flat plate panels absorb solar energy, which is then translated to heat energy that is then passed through to liquid stored in pipes. Flat plate collectors tend to have a life expectancy of over twenty-five years. Evacuated tube collectors work like flat plate solar panels, but instead the liquid is heated in the core of the collector, instead of having to be transferred.

What happens when it isn’t sunny?

One of the most common myths about solar panels is that most people are coerced into believing that solar panels can only work during days that are sunny. This is simply not true, solar panels are powered and totally feasible sources of electricity, even during the most overcast of days as they still receive diffused radiation.

What are the benefits of Solar Thermal Panels?

A typical solar water heating system will be able to provide your house with up to 70% of your hot water needs. This could save a typical family of four, around £50-£80 per year on heating bills. Of course, one of the most important and long-term reason that people are turning to photovoltaic energy is the ultimate benefit to the environment.

Are Solar Thermal Panels Right For you?

One thing that you must consider when you are looking to install the Solar Thermal Panels is whether they are the right kind of water heating system for your home. You must consider requirements such as boiler compatibility and the roof space required for Solar Thermal Panels. Check our case studies and Testimonial page for more information.

What is the Government Solar Panel Feed-in Tariff?

Basically, you could earn money from your energy supplier for any electricity-generating technology you install to your house or business. Technologies such as solar electricity and wind turbines can produce excess energy, which can then be fed into the grid, thus generating both electricity and money.
