Why You Should Invest in Solar PV TODAY

Why You Should Invest in Solar PV TODAYThere are many reasons you should install a Solar PV system, here are 3 extra reasons to install now

It’s a difficult time for homeowners looking to make a decision on having a renewable technology installed. With High Court rulings and major changes due there has never been a better time to install. Most of these changes are due to take effect in the next few weeks so Ploughcroft have put together a list of reasons to install a solar system now and avoid any disappointment by missing out on the great offers available.

  1. From April, you may need to meet strict energy efficiency requirements
The Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) have recommended that, from April, homes should achieve a grade D energy performance certificate in order to receive the full financial incentives available. This will mean that homeowners will have to upgrade homes with measures such as roof insulation, cavity wall insulation and other energy saving techniques costing even more to upgrade the home.
  2. Installation Costs are at an all time low
Since the introduction of the Feed In Tariff in April 2010 solar panels have come down in price dramatically to reach an all time low for homeowners to have a solar panel system installed. This means the time to get the highest possible return on investment is now.

The government scheme

The reason for this system becoming so popular is that the UK Government recently announced a Feed-in Tariff or FiT. This pays householders who generate electricity from renewable energy sources like solar panels, and feed it into the National Grid. Current payment levels of the feed-in tariff, are guaranteed for 25 years.

Best to act now!

However, these calculations are based upon a householder installing a PV system now. The current starting rate is held for 25 years whereas householders delaying a decision will start on a lower rate.

Solar pv installation and house values

Investment in photovoltaic panel installation can dramatically boost the value of your home. A recent MORI poll showed that the value of properties with PV installations could be enhanced by over £10,000.

How do solar panels work?

Electricity is generated by a series of crystalline silicon cells, grouped into a framed panel and encased in toughened glass. The action of light on these cells creates a direct current. This is then converted to alternating current which we can use in our homes, or is fed into the National Grid.

How solar pv panels are installed

Panels are usually fitted onto the existing roof, although there are some which fit flush and replace the existing tiles or slates. Planning permission is not needed for most houses but Ploughcroft can advise on these issues and will always install equipment that meets all the necessary regulations
