How do Photovoltaic Panels Work?
Solar photovoltaic panels, otherwise known as PV panels, work by absorbing the natural radiation that is created by the sun. Once filtered through the panels the energy is then sent to an inverter which then supplies your house with 100% zero emission energy. Any excess energy that is created is then sent into a feed-in tariff which supplies the national grid with much needed renewable energy.
Although you can often wake up on the gloomiest of days to find the weather in a state of overcast gloom, the great news is that your PV panels will still work in even the darkest of days. This is because the panels still receive diffused radiation which is enough to power them through 365 days of the year. Also, as the United Kingdom still receives 60% of the same sunlight as a country situated on the equator, you need not worry about your panels not receiving enough sunlight.
Simply put, the benefits of Solar PV panels are huge. Not only do they emit zero amounts of pollution once that they are installed, but they can also save you money. Based on a feed-in tariff rating of 21pK/Wh, a typical solar system could save you around £670 per year as you will be getting paid for the money that you export to the national grid. You may be also interested to know that the typical PV system could save up to a tonne of carbon dioxide being send into the atmosphere every year. That’s up to thirty tonnes in its lifetime.
When you are considering buying solar panels, it is important to consider just how much money they will save you over a long term period, how much room you have available on your roof and how much sunlight that roof receives throughout the day. If you would like to receive a call-back call within the hours that suit you, check the Quick Contact Form below so we can discuss with you as to whether solar panels are suitable for your home.
If you are interested in a quick, simple estimation of how much money you could save over a year or a lifetime of use, why not check out our return on investment (ROI) calculator? Any money that you make through your feed-in tariff is tax free and guaranteed for twenty-five years.
The government Solar Feed-in Tariff is there for any excess energy you produce; not wanting this to go to waste, the energy is passed through an inverter which supplies the energy directly to the national grid. As of the 1st of April 2012, the rate stands at 21p/kWh meaning that you could generate savings and income of around £670 a year.
