Nottingham is a busy and active city located in the East Midlands of England and it represents one of eight English
Core Cities Group. Despite the area of Nottingham it has a population estimated around 666,350
which makes it the either the largest urban city in the United Kingdom, behind Manchester and Leeds but ahead of Liverpool
and Sheffield. Due to its population density, it is known as the largest city in the East Midlands.
During the industrial revolution Nottingham really rose to fame in the lace-making and bicycle industry. These industries gave it a serious economic boost and greatly influenced Nottingham' residential and commercial growth which it wasn’t prepared for. This fast acceleration and the poor planning involved, left Nottingham with some of the worst slums known outside of India. Nowadays, thanks to the education facilities it has a more reputable name.
These days however Nottingham has pulled itself back from the brink by having outstanding higher education facilities. The city has two universities which are classed as very reputable learning establishments. The former polytechnic university, Nottingham Trent University, is only just overshadowed by The University of Nottingham. Nottingham has a very high student population which can be held responsible for the ever increasing amount of pubs, bar and clubs in and around the city.
Nottingham was home to the extremely famous Robin Hood, a brave a courageous hero who stole from the poor and gave to the rich. And of course, it is place to Sherwood Forest which is known as Robin Hood's hideout.
