Lancaster is the county town of Lancashire and because of this it has adopted the unofficial name of the capital of Lancashire. Lancaster is an affluent commercial, cultural and educational city with roots in history that delve deep back to Roman times. Known for its valiant efforts in the war of the roses, Lancaster has put its name on the map. It is a common misconception that the war of the roses was purely between Lancaster and York, when in fact the truth is the battle was between Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Due to the fact that Lancaster is rich in history it has some phenomenal looking buildings. The majority of the building architecture relates back to that of the Georgian times, however despite its status as a historic city it has a surprising level of contemporary culture.

One of the main points of interest in Lancaster has to be the Lancaster Castle. It is a medieval castle founded on the site of a Roman fort that lies next to the River Lune. The castle was first used as a prison but to this very day the breath taking design and awe inspiring architecture makes it one of the most beautiful castles to date. Looking out across the Lancaster landscape you can truly admire the architecture and the grandeur of the castle.
