Situated in the North of England, half way between Leeds and Manchester, Huddersfield is a large market town which has recently seen a surge in higher education. It is home to Huddersfield University which is renowned for its competence in media studies and a surplus of sixth form colleges that are scattered throughout the city.

Huddersfield is also big on its sports and the home to the rugby league team the Huddersfield Giants. Huddersfield are generally very successful in the sporting world and have local rivalries with Halifax and Bradford which produce some exciting game and some interesting results.

The city itself has a bounty of Victorian architecture; the train station is absolutely fantastic and was one described as ‘the most splendid station façade in England’. The train station recently underwent renovation, at a cost of 1 million pound, and subsequently won the Europa Nostra award for renowned European Architecture.

During the month of November there is a fantastic light show, Huddersfield is lit up and the community join together to embrace these good times. Every year the show is put on by a different theatre company based in Huddersfield and the grand finale is a spectacular firework show. In addition to this, theatre companies from across the globe come to Huddersfield to partake and to host this incredible show.

A number of national and international superstars have been born and bred in Huddersfield, one prime example would be the famous actor Patrick Stewart and the inventor Wilf Lunn.
