Domestic Heat Pumps, Ground Source & Air Source

At Ploughcroft, we are dedicated to providing the best possible service for our customers. With years of experience in renewable energy, we have a proven track record, with nine out of ten people recommending us in surveys. Ploughcroft provide domestic heat pumps that are a totally new and innovative way of heating buildings within the United Kingdom.

How Do Heat Pumps Work?

There are two different types of domestic heat pumps; ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps. Ground source heat pumps are buried pipes beneath the ground that extract heat from the surrounding area and can be used to heat radiators, underfloor heating and warm air heating systems. Air source heat pumps work similarly to ground source heat pumps but instead they absorb heat from the outside air.

Do Heat Pumps work when it is cold?

Yes, the great news is that despite general consensus, the temperature beneath the surface of the ground stays at a constant rate throughout the year, making the pump viable even during the winter periods. Similarly, air source heat pumps also work in all types of weather and still produce heat in temperatures as low as -15°C.

What are the benefits of Heat Pumps?

A recent study conducted by the Energy Savings Trust noted that a typical ground source heat pump could save you between £50 and £420 a year, depending on which heating system the pump replaces. If you are buying an air source heat pump, depending on which heating system you are replacing, a typical air source heat pump could save you up to £330 a year though you must consider how much space you have available.

Heat Pump RHI & Payback

A typical heat pump can cost between £9,000 to £17,000 with the money you make back depending on a number of variants. If you are replacing a coal, electric or an LPG system, the heat pump is likely to save you money. Also, a well-insulated house is essential to the efficiency of a heat pump. You may also be able to receive money from the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), which is to be launched in October 2012.
