Halifax is a famous town located in the county of Yorkshire. It has an approximate population of 82,000 and was very influential in the textiles market. Halifax was a busy industrial town which specialised in the production and trading of wool, carpets, machine tools and beer. Perhaps though Halifax is most famous for its range of Mackintosh chocolate and toffee (now currently owned by Nestlé) and of course the Halifax Bank which is a major player in the economy of Halifax.

Halifax is a relatively successful town when it comes to sports, the rugby league team Halifax RLFC plays in the Co-Operative Championship and the stadium which houses both the football team and rugby team is known as the Shay. When it comes to football, there is a friendly rivalry between their neighbouring teams Huddersfield and Bradford and these teams can produce some interesting matches..

The railway network in Halifax is extensive and connects it to all local areas such as Manchester, Leeds, and Bradford to name but a few. However, due to increased pressure from local residents and the local paper The Halifax Courier, plans were announced in 2009 to create a direct railway link to London and the service began to run in May 2010 much to the delight of commuters.

If you come from Halifax you’re known as a Haligonian, some famous haligonians include the renowned mathematician Henry Briggs and of course, as previously mentioned, John Mackintosh who amazed the world with his confectionary and later became internationally known as Rowntree Mackintosh.
