Dorchester is a historic market town that lies on the banks of the River Frome. The River Frome separates it from the area of Weymouth which is located just eight miles south of Dorchester. Dorchester is quite a small town and has a population of around 19,000. Currently, Dorchester has put a bid in for city status and if successful it will become the 5th smallest city in the county.

Dorchester has roots buried way back to prehistoric times. It is said that varies tribes have existed in Dorchester since 4000BC and it also saw the arrival of the Romans in 43AD. Named ‘Durnovaria’ by the Romans which roughly translate as the place with fist-sized pebbles.

In the modern day the town of Dorchester keeps on expanding and one of the most recent developments in the west of the town is called Poundbury. Dorchester is one of the towns at the forefront of a green age and takes big steps toward combatting climate change.

The town is well connected by public transport and has two railways stations located within. In addition to this a bypass road was completed in 1988 which with a bit of strategic planning mainly to divert a lot of the traffic that passed through the south and the west of Wolverhampton.
