upon the banks of the River Derwent you will stumble across Derby.
Derby has an approximate population of 230,000 which can find itself amongst the top 18th largest settlements in England.
The town has both urban and rural living spaces and a real contrast is provided by the two, it is also well connected by buses
and trains so therefore, commuting is not a problem.
Derby was also considered to be an extremely important city during the times of the Roman, the Romans first settled here in 80AD and chose the location due to it being on high ground and also because it was protected by the River Derwent. Later on some Saxons that were navigating up the river found the settlement and expanded it southwards. Due to its rich history, many of the suburbs in Derby have names that can be traced back to Saxon roots.
There is plenty to see and do in Derby, the tower of the Derby Cathedral is 212 feet tall and there have been a pair of peregrine falcons breeding in here since 2006. Also, set in the dungeons there is an attraction that’s both educational and fun and would be worth a visit - The Derby Gaol.
Derby was also a keen player in the industrial revolution and has a museum dedicated to the things it has achieved as a city. You can visit the Derby Industrial Museum and witness for yourself the industrial achievements and technological advancements of Derby – including seeing the Rolls-Royce aero engine.
