The ninth largest city in the world,
Coventry, can be found in the English county of the West Midlands.
It has a population of 300,848 and is continuously increasing. Coventry finds itself home to a fantastic array of buildings and
things to do; it's a very popular destination for tourists and residents alike.
Coventry went down in the history books after forming the first twinning relation with another city. The bond was formed between Coventry and Stalingrad (now Volgograd) during World War II. The relationship was formed by the residents of Coventry who wished to display their support for the Soviet Red Army during the Battle of Stalingrad. Today, it is also twinned with 24 other countries around the world.
Boasting a lovely modern cathedral, the Coventry Cathedral was built following World War II because during the war the ancient cathedral was destroyed by a Luftwaffe bombing. The cathedral can be seen way into the distance and despite the modernised architecture of the building it seems to fit right in amongst the cities landscape.
Coventry is also steaming ahead in terms of education; it is home to both the Coventry University and the University of Warwick which is located just on the southern outskirts. Coventry is a one of the more popular choices for students due to the university’s reputation and the city life about the town.
A really interesting fact about Coventry is that someone has named a planet after it, the famous Soviet astronomer Nikolai Stepanovich Chernyk discovered the minor planet and named it after Coventry.
